I had never painted before summer 2018. I started abstract painting because I no longer had the melodies to sing, movements to dance, or words to encapsulate the pain in my body. I needed a new way to express myself since all of my go-to methods were stale.
My overall theme for my first body of work is titled, "Dancing With Depression." It speaks to me learning how to adjust to life "in awareness and acceptance" of mental illness. Living with mental illness for those of us who appear to be highly functional, is indeed a "choreographed dance" and our thoughts, our therapists, and our medications are all the choreographers. New series on Black Feminine Identity coming soon!
